Invisalign FAQ
-
Invisalign® is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners to gradually straighten your teeth and improve your bite. Because the aligners are virtually invisible and removable, Invisalign has become a popular alternative to traditional braces for both teens and adults.
At Jaclyn Martinez DDS, Dr. Jaclyn Martinez creates a personalized Invisalign treatment plan using digital scanning technology to accurately map the movement of your teeth throughout treatment. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately one to two weeks before progressing to the next stage, gradually moving your teeth into their ideal position.
Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, making it easier to maintain excellent oral hygiene throughout treatment. For the best results, aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours per day as directed.
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of your case, but many patients complete treatment in approximately 6 to 18 months.

Invisalign can successfully treat many of the same orthodontic concerns as traditional braces. During your consultation, Dr. Martinez will evaluate your teeth and bite to determine whether Invisalign is the right treatment for your individual needs.
Invisalign may be recommended to correct:
Crowded teeth
Gaps between teeth
Crooked or rotated teeth
Overbite
Underbite
Crossbite
Open bite
Mild to moderate spacing and bite concerns
Using Invisalign's advanced digital treatment planning software, Dr. Martinez can often show you a simulation of your expected tooth movement before treatment even begins, allowing you to visualize your future smile.
-
Invisalign is an excellent option for many children, teens, and adults who want to improve the appearance and function of their smile without traditional metal braces.
During your consultation, Dr. Martinez will perform a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation, review your goals, and determine whether Invisalign is the most appropriate treatment for your specific case. While Invisalign is suitable for many orthodontic concerns, some complex cases may still be better treated with traditional braces or a combination of treatment approaches.
Successful Invisalign treatment depends on wearing your aligners consistently each day and attending regular follow-up visits so your progress can be monitored throughout treatment.
For younger patients, Invisalign First® may be appropriate in certain situations to help guide developing smiles during the mixed dentition stage. Dr. Martinez will determine whether this treatment is appropriate based on your child's individual needs.
-
Some Invisalign patients require small, tooth-colored attachments—often called buttons—to help certain teeth move more predictably. These attachments are made from a tooth-colored dental composite and are bonded directly to selected teeth during treatment.
Attachments provide additional grip for the aligners, allowing them to apply gentle, controlled forces that help achieve more precise tooth movement. Depending on your treatment plan, you may have several attachments or none at all.
Although you may notice the attachments for the first few days, most patients adjust quickly and find they have little impact on speaking or daily activities. Once treatment is complete, the attachments are easily removed, leaving your teeth looking natural.
